My mother’s mother was an unwanted child
She got sent to her grandparents, I hope they cared for her

They asked questions like “Daddy do you love me?”
Which is a question no daughter should ever have to ask
They had little drawings of flowers and families and houses along the border
My mother’s mother is not around but if she was around she wouldn’t have to ask me if I loved her
